I can hardly believe it, but...

I'm actually finished!

Oh, not with the first draft (that happened seven months ago)--or even the third. But today, as I finished that last of the revisions on my "list" and the word count rolled over to 77,777... I decided to call it done.

My first novel is ready to print and mail off to a prospective publisher!

I have my eye on a small publisher--an imprint of Northern Illinois University Press--called Switchgrass Books. Their website claims they "publish literary novels...that evoke the Midwestern experience, whether it be urban, suburban, or rural."

As far as I'm concerned, my book fits their bill--although ultimately, that's their decision.

My manuscript is likely to visit other publishers in my quest for its publication. It will (hopefully) garner requests for revisions from editors who like the story, but think it needs "work." But for today, the writing stops. The lines scribbled on the bathroom mirror with eyeliner will get wiped away. The crumpled notes on my office floor  with the "perfect sentence" will finally find their way to the recycle bin on the back deck.

Today, the story can rest, and I can enjoy the quiet...

(at least until another idea pops into my head and I start my second book!)
